FNS names Li Xinmin as new editor-in-chief

PARIS, EARTH — The Federation News Service has named veteran journalist Li Xinmin as its new editor-in-chief.

A graduate of the Pennington School, Li began his career as a journalist for the Shanghai Free Press before joining the staff of the Eastern Morning Post, where he was eventually named editor for foreign affairs after his reporting from the front lines during the Dominion War was recognized by the Federation Journalists Association. He was later named the Eastern Morning Post‘s editor-in-chief in 2380 and served as a debate moderator for the 2384 Federation presidential election.

“We are excited to have a journalist of his caliber joining the organization,” said FNS board chairman Daniela Rodriguez. “We are confident of his vision and talent to lead the FNS into the next century.”

Li will replace Lara Senekal, who has served as interim editor-in-chief for nearly ten months after Reza Kardgar stepped down from the top post following his controversial decision to publish an open letter from Maquis Reborn leader and terrorist Nikael Kalre on the anniversary of the attack on Ohmallera, Betazed. Senekal will remain on the FNS staff as an editor and reporter.

“It is truly humbling to be welcomed into the offices where many of my mentors and idols once worked,” said Li during the press conference at the headquarters of the FNS in Paris. “This is an institution with a proud history, and we must never forget that. But like the Federation itself, the FNS also faces challenges in an ever-changing—ever-shrinking—galaxy. With quantum slipstream, the affairs of distant worlds are no longer someone else’s news, and we must adapt to our growing audience. Yet no matter what the future holds, one thing will remain certain: the FNS will continue to be the premier news source in the Federation, bringing objective, thorough, and thought-provoking stories to our readers.”
