Pirates: A Persistent Threat
I hope I’ve caught your attention with that title. While piracy has been a small trend throughout the Federation, recently it’s become a plague, especially on the outlying colonies. (You’ve probably heard of the FTU strike and the letter written by the Colonial Coalition). It’s time to examine this more closely, and see what might really be going on.

PARIS, EARTH — It is hardly news that the exact contents of a President’s speech be unknown to the greater public or even some insiders reporters go to for sources and sound bites. What is unusual is that the President of the United Federation of Planets should make no mention of the contents of her largest speech of the year, and perhaps the last major one of her career and then fly off to a soon to be completed space station on the far side of Federation space.

INOX SYSTEM — Mashana, the fourth largest city on Inox, has fallen to anti-government forces, and Inoxan Chancellor Koaw Tassin has declared a state of emergency.

NYGEL II — An unknown ship, believed to be operated by pirates, transported away artifacts from Site 02 on Nygel II and damaged irreplaceable remains of ancient Iconian culture.
Federation President to attend launch of bold venture in interstellar diplomacy
